MOUNTAIN TOP — With springtime fast approaching, it’s crucial to be educated on species of plants and insects that are invasive to your community, your gardens, and waters.

The Pinewood Derby is a Cub Scout tradition where Scouts design, build, and race their own wooden cars. It’s a highlight of the year and a great opportunity for families to work together and cheer on the Scouts.

At the February meeting of the Mountain Top Historical Society held at the Ice House Pub in Mountain Top, Luzerne County Judge Richard Hughes presided over the installation of officers and newly appointed trustees. Judge Hughes has been a longtime member of the MTHS.

On February 25, 2026, Mrs. Theresa Long, MMI Preparatory School’s Head of School, announced that she will retire at the conclusion of the 2026-2027 academic school year.

Saint Jude School took top place honors at the recent Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Sciences Regional Competition. The Nomads had seven Perfect Scores, fifteen First Places, and one Second Place. Connor Cinoski won the Excellence Award for Botany. St. Jude School also won the Excellence Award for Small Schools due to their highest percentage of perfect scores and first place awards. WILKES-BARRE — The owners of Adelina’s Restaurant and Pizzeria announced Tuesday that they will close their restaurant in Genetti’s in downtown Wilkes-Barre on March 14 — and they hope to reopen their Mountain Top restaurant in early spring.

WILKES-BARRE — The Greater Wilkes-Barre Friendly Sons of St. Patrick announced they have selected Jim Brogna to be honored as the 2026 Man of the Year at the 80th Anniversary dinner set for Mohegan Pennsylvania, on Friday, March 13.

MOUNTAIN TOP — Tax season is now underway from Jan. 26 through April 15, and local tax professional Gary Genasevich of Mountain Top’s H&R Block offered insight into tax season this year and how the community can feel prepared for the few months ahead.

DRUMS — Residents of Drums and surrounding areas gathered Saturday, Feb. 21, for the Protect Your Energy Holistic Wellness Fair, a free open-to-the-public event featuring holistic services, crafts, tarot, food trucks, and handcrafted goods. Organized by NEPA CraftWorks and located at Carmen’s Country Inn and Gardens, the event was created to showcase local NEPA practitioners, small business owners, and artists focused on holistic themes and services.
