Fireworks lit up the skies over Penn Lake during a display on the weekend before July 4.

St. Mary’s Church, Dorrance, held its annual bazaar on June 22 and 23. In addition to the fabulous potato pancakes, pierogi and haluski, the bazaar took on added significance this year as parishioners bid farewell to St. Jude/St. Mary’s parochial vicar (assistant pastor) Rev. Philbert Takyi-Nketiah who was transferred to administrator of Holy Spirit parish, Mocanaqua on July 1.

Lincoln Bibla took top honors for the second consecutive year at the 17th annual Crestwood High School football team Iron Man competition held at the high school on June 28.

The Albert Cemetery board of directors unveiled the cemetery’s new columbariums and dedicated the columbarium gardens to its longtime caretaker Jack Frankenfield in ceremonies on June 22.

A Hobbie woman was a first-place finisher in her division at the inaugural Athena on the Mountain held June 22 at Achieve Wellness and Fitness, 65 S. Mountain Blvd.

Longtime Allied Services volunteer Phil Straub was recently honored with the Volunteer Award at the 31st Annual Autism Golf Classic held at Huntsville Golf Club. A dedicated contributor, Phil was recognized for his exceptional efforts in making the tournament a premier fundraising and autism awareness event in Northeast Pennsylvania.
