Rice Township has another new full-time police officer.
At their April meeting, supervisors approved the hiring of Mike Augustine as a full-time police officer effective March 26. The 54-year-old Augustine recently retired from Plains Township police department after 34 years of service. He joins former Plains Township police officer Ronald Dombroski on the Rice Township department. Starting salary for a full-time police officer is $61,760.
The appointment of Augustine maintains the department’s full-time complement at six officers, Augustine fills a vacant position as the result of Officer Autumn Birk being on maternity leave. The township is interviewing for part-time officers to be available on a per diem basis at a rate of $23.75 per hour.
