Mountain Top area Scout troops in conjunction with American Legion Post 781 held a flag retirement ceremony at the American Legion grounds on Flag Day.
Sheila Bender, leader of Scouting Venturing Crew 461, was master of ceremonies. Rose Bastemeyer, member of Venturing Crew 461, gave a presentation on “flag etiquette,” which included explanations of how to properly display the American Flag and how to properly dispose of worn flags.
Scouts, leaders and community members brought worn and tattered flags to a fireplace where Venturing Crew 461 leaders Hank Bastemeyer and Mario Naticchi lowered the flags into the flames.
American Legion Vice Commander Al Finn played taps to end the ceremony.
