Inching closer to spring brings much to look forward to, and for many local businesses this means more events happening. For those looking to get into some fun in the next coming weeks, you’re in luck. Here’s a rundown of what’s happening in the community in the next few weeks. You may actually find it hard to choose between which events to go.
Mountain Top restaurants offer specials for Lent
Lent is being observed from March 2 until April 14. Every season local eateries create a special menu for those who abstain from meat during the 40 day period, traditionally these menus will include seafood and pizza.
Drums Lioness Lions Club Inducts New Member
The Drums Lioness Lions Club recently inducted and welcomed Joanne Oakum as a new member into the club. Jeanette Tait, club president, conducted the induction ceremony. Jen Gerhard, club co-treasurer, served as Joanne’s sponsor.
Crestwood students compete at PJAS Regionals
Students from the Crestwood Secondary Campus participated in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Regional Meeting which was held virtually on Saturday, March 5.

The Wright Center for Community Health is holding a Driving Better Health COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic at Hazleton Area School District, 1515 W. 23rd St., Hazleton, on Wednesday, March 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Sorkine helps Bloomsburg Speech and Debate Team win fourth straight event
The Bloomsburg University speech and debate team won the First Place Team Sweepstakes Award at the Collegiate Forensic Association’s Annual Beach Tournament in Ocean City, Md., recently.

Scout troop to hold corn hole tourney
Boy Scout Troop 434 will host its inaugural amateur corn hole tournament at 6:30 p.m. on March 31 at Skateawat in Wilkes-Barre. Doors open at 6 p.m. The entrance fee is $20 a person for the double elimination tournament. There will be raffle baskets and a 50/50. Entrants must preregister by March 21. Saint Jude School captures two Wyoming Valley Catholic League titles
There was a whole lot of excitement at Good Shepherd Academy’s Gym this past week, most especially if you were sitting in the Saint Jude Nomads section. Both the fifth- and sixth-grade boys’ team and the fifth- and sixth-grade girls’ team took home top honors as they captured the Wyoming Valley Catholic League titles. The boy’s team – led by coaches Kevin Zurawski and Brian Gryboski – beat Good Shepherd Academy with a score of 27-22. The girl’s team – led by coaches Jonathan Bilbow, Mike Bartholomew, Jeff Sweet, Kevin Millard and Dan Fauerbach – took home the title with a 20-12 win over Saint Nick’s/Saint Mary’s.
