The life and impact of a much-loved resident of Wright Manor in Mountain Top who passed away last December was celebrated recently with the dedication of a new Christmas tree in her memory.

Evelyn Kaczmarek died on Dec. 20, 2022, at the age of 88. A few days later a water pipe in the building where she resided for nearly a decade burst, causing extensive damage, including ruining the Christmas tree in the Luzerne County Area Agency on Aging’s Active Adult Center in the building.

Her family purchased a new tree and donated it to the center in her memory. Building residents and members of the center gathered at lunch time on Dec. 1 to remember Kaczmarek and celebrate the dedication of the new Christmas tree.

“Everybody lover her,” 85-year-old Edie Giampietro said of her best friend Kaczmarek who resided in an apartment across the hall from her. “She made me feel so welcome when I moved into the building.”

“She was very gracious and very giving,” Giampietro related. “She was such a happy person and that rubbed off on everyone else,” she added. “I miss her so much.”

Kaczmarek’s son-in-law Charles Barry of Wilkes-Barre spoke on behalf of her family. “Evelyn really likes it up here,” Barry related. “She liked everything about it. It’s fitting we’re here at Christmas to dedicate this tree.”

He noted his wife, Karen, Kaczmarek’s daughter was babysitting an infant grandchild and was not able to make the dedication.
