A Hazleton-based lawncare company that does a great deal of business in Mountain Top recently provided makeovers to the entrances to Rice and Fairview elementary schools at no charge to the Crestwood School District.

The work was done by Vito’s Lawncare and Landscaping, which performed the landscaping work at the two schools in time for children to return to school.

“We’re based in Hazleton, but we have a lot of customers in Conyngham, Drums and Mountain Top,” said Lauren Sacco of Vito’s Lawncare and Landscaping. “We have lots of (commercial) customers along Route 309. Mountain Top has been very good to use so we wanted to give back to the community.”

Sacco said the company became aware that the PTO of the schools was looking for someone to donate time to spruce up and care for the entrances. That’s when Vito’s decided to step up.

“They were in desperate need of attention,” she said of the entrances.

“We went back to basics,” Sacco continued. “We ripped out everything that was dead and overgrown. We brought in new topsoil and planted new bushes and perennials.”

Sacco said the firm plans to check on their work throughout the year and maintain it.
