A GoFundMe page has been established to help with medical and rehabilitation expenses for the son of a well-known Mountain Top woman who sustained serious injuries in a motorcycle crash on July 1.

Danny Steeves, 30, son of Claudia Strycharz who was a long-time Mountain Peaks photojournalist, was severely injured in the crash that took place a short distance from his home in Deland, Fla.

According to Strycharz, Steeves was driving his motorcycle home when he was run off the road by a vehicle that pulled out in front of him and left the scene. He skidded across a field and into a fence. He was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center of Daytona Beach. The father of a 9-month-old son, Bentley, sustained numerous broken bones and lacerations as well as a spinal cord injury that has left him paralyzed from the waist down. His mother said he was wearing a motorcycle helmet that is credited with saving his life.

Strycharz said her son already has undergone five surgeries. “He has a long road ahead of him. We hope and pray he will get back use of his legs,” she said.

“He has a very positive attitude,” she added.

Once he is discharged from the hospital, Steeves will move to a rehabilitation center where his wife, Brie, will learn to care for him while he undergoes rehabilitation.

So far, nearly $12,000 has been raised through the GoFundMe with a goal of $100,000. To donate, go to https://www.gofundme.com/f/steeves-family-tragedy.
