Franklin, Edison, Graham Bell, Tesla, Gutenberg, Cariot, Meyer, Makuta … not sure what they all have in common? Never heard of the last three names? Well, if the Saint Jude Invention Convention is any indication you will. Mrs. Sherry Grenzberg’s third-grade class hosted a real live carnival of creativity showcasing the amazing “discoveries” of some budding inventors. Students begin learning about technology and discoveries in third grade. Their recent science unit focused on the six simple machines and the development process for creating inventions. Students and families were given a calendar and a projection report to keep track of their invention’s progress. Using prompts students developed ideas and thought up alternatives should their prototype not work. Finally, they used tools to build their final invention. The Invention Convention was a day to showcase all they had created. Next stop the patent office.
