WILKES-BARRE TWP. — Crestwood School District celebrated 230 graduates at its commencement ceremony Saturday, June 13, at Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza.
Graduates, dressed in red and white gowns, waved to loved ones as they walked in pairs to their seats, as the Crestwood band played “Pomp and Circumstance” during the processional.
Myla Keating sang the national anthem and Crestwood’s alma mater. Mollie Kozich, senior class vice president, gave welcome remarks.
“To the Class of 2026, take everything in,” Kozich said, acknowledging the achievements of her classmates. “This moment belongs to you.”
“As we move forward, we will carry with us the lessons we have learned, the memories we created, and the friendships we have built,” she said. “Where you start will always be a part of you, but your future holds more than you know.”
Luke Vanchure and Dante R. Schwartz then performed “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” before Luke Joseph, senior class president, gave his address.
Joseph said he’s certain his class will succeed because they’ve always persevered through challenges. He also reminded them that their connection will remain, no matter the distance.
“Just because we’re all starting our own journeys does not mean we are facing the future alone,” he said, noting that they will always be a text or call away.
“At the end of the day, we are more than just a group of people who went to high school together,” he said. “We have become a family.”
Acting Superintendent Kevin Seyer and Assistant to the Superintendent John Gorham also gave remarks.
Seyer detailed his top 10 pieces of advice and thanked the class for their contributions to the district.
“Remember, you will always have a home at Crestwood, and no matter where life takes you, you will forever be a Crestwood Comet,” he said.
Gorham spoke on the passage of time, emphasizing that it can never be replenished.
“It’s impossible not to think about how fast time goes,” he said. “It feels like just yesterday you were walking through the doors as seventh graders, trying to find your lockers and figure out how you fit in.”
“Look at how much has changed in what feels like the blink of an eye,” he said. “Time is going to keep moving fast, so anchor yourself in the present, make every single chapter count, and don’t forget to take it all in.”
Gorham and Vice Principals Morgan Craig and Jeff Pierontoni awarded diplomas. Class Secretary Ashley Long and Class Treasurer Sean Rossi then led the tassel turn.
Vanchure, Rachel Shoemaker, Brody James Stewart, and Spencer Cuauhtemoc Young performed “Stop Crying Your Heart Out,” and the Crestwood band played “Pomp and Circumstance” once more during the recessional to conclude the ceremony.
