Several seniors in the MMI Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Club participated in this year’s State Leadership Workshop (SLW) at the Kalahari Resort and Convention Center in the Pocono Mountains. Kate Malay, Jim Thorpe; Anden Karlick, Freeland; Emely Lopez-Rodriquez, Hazleton; Ty McDermott, White Haven: Jeffrey DeAngelo, Sugarloaf, Jessica Zheng, Jim Thorpe; John Schwear, Hazleton and Brenna Eckhart, Lehighton were the senior students who participated.
This year’s theme was “Imagine, Dream, Do!” and students participated in many interactive and engaging workshops such as “Entrepreneurial Edge”, “Trace the Trade”, and “Soft Skills in the 21st Century”. Students also enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of the resort. Other activities included the Charity Walk, State Project T-shirt Sale, and the Silent Basket Auction to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
MMI FBLA Advisor Katherine Zucco said, “I am extremely proud of our students and how they represented MMI at the PA FBLA State Leadership Workshop.”
Sophomore Hayden Schwabe of Hazleton, also attended in his role as the PA FBLA state vice-president at large. Schwabe worked with the other state officers and advisors of the PA FBLA State Executive Committee to plan the SLW and delivered speeches at both the Opening and Closing Business Sessions. He also led a workshop focused on FBLA Middle Level, which is a program designed to increase membership and involvement in FBLA for students in middle school.
