Drug addiction seminary scheduled
The Mountain Top Area Community Association, in cooperation with Clean Slate Addiction Treatment Centers, will present “Drug Addiction in Luzerne County: New Questions, New Answers” from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, at Crestwood High School.
Saint Jude School holds Living Stations of the Cross
The Saint Jude School eighth grade class helped the student body experience the true meaning of Easter as they performed the Living Stations of the Cross during Holy Week. Students acted out the parts of the individuals involved over 2,000 years ago with Patrick Smith taking the part of Jesus, Alexis Bleiler playing Mary, Alex Gordon as Simon, and Aurora Roote in the part of Veronica. Mrs. Jody Roche and Sister Mary Theresa Wojcicki produced this year’s prayer and Mrs. Mary Jo Cross and Mrs. Christine Lizbinski accompanied on the violin.
Crestwood students compete at FBLA State Leadership Conference
Crestwood High School Future Business Leaders of America attended the Pennsylvania State Leadership Conference in Hershey from April 10 to April 13. A total of 24 students competed at the state level, with four members finishing in the top 10 of the state. Additionally, three students advanced to the National Conference which will be held in Chicago from June 29 to July 3.
Wadzin promoted to detective sergeant
Jocelyn Wadzin, an 18-year veteran of the Fairview Township Police Department, was promoted to the rank of detective sergeant at the Board of Supervisors May meeting. The oath of office was administered by Judge Richard Hughes.

Families and friends enjoyed the annual Kiwanis Club of Mountain Top pancake breakfast held April 30 at Crestwood High School cafeteria.
Saint Jude School National Junior Honor Society holds induction ceremony
The Saint Jude School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society recently held inductions at Saint Jude Church in front of the upper school students, as well as friends and family members. Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship and Character, the five tenets of the society, were highlighted during the ceremony with examples of student volunteer work and achievements being presented. Eighth-grade students outlined the responsibilities of the new members as part of one of the nation’s oldest, largest and most prestigious student recognition programs. Students were challenged, by Principal Sister Ellen Fischer, to live up to the high ideals of the organization and to make their school and community better through their efforts.
Van Gorden graduates from IUP
Mr. and Mrs. Eric Van Gorden are proud to announce the college graduation of their son, Ethan Van Gorden. Ethan is graduated summa cum laude from the Robert E. Cook Honor’s College at Indiana University of Pennsylvania on May 6 and 7. He will be received bachelor’s degrees in both Anthropology (Archaeology) and History. During his time at IUP, Ethan earned a certificate in public history, was inducted into several honor society organizations and participated in his biggest lifetime adventure, a six-week study abroad program in Spain, where he hiked the Camino de Santiago. This fall, Ethan will attend the University of Maryland as a graduate assistant to pursue a master’s degree in Anthropology (Archaeology).
Wright Township adds new police cruiser
Wright Township police department received a new police vehicle on May 9. The vehicle was purchased through the state COSTARS program from Rottet Motors, Tamaqua, at a cost of $49,828. The 2022 Ford SUV police package includes a lock box for officers to secure their firearms and bars on rear side windows.
