WILKES-BARRE — The owners of Adelina’s Restaurant and Pizzeria announced Tuesday that they will close their restaurant in Genetti’s in downtown Wilkes-Barre on March 14 — and they hope to reopen their Mountain Top restaurant in early spring.
Lisa Cummings, who owns Adelina’s with her husband, Bernie, said, “Building preparations in Mountain Top are coming along faster than we anticipated, and we will be posting about opening dates very soon.”
Cummings posted the news on Facebook.
“As most of you know, after the fire to our restaurant in Mountain Top, a long-time customer of ours, Gus Genetti, offered us an opportunity to utilize the space in his hotel to get us back on our feet until our rebuild,” the Facebook post stated. “Since being in Wilkes-Barre, we have met so many amazing new friends and they already have become family. We have been blessed to serve them over these past few months.”
Cummings also addressed reports about staying in Wilkes-Barre long-term and running both locations once the Mountain Top site opens.
“After much thought and deliberation, we are unfortunately unable to make that work for various reasons,” Cumming said on Facebook. “Sadly, our last day in Wilkes-Barre will be March 14. We are encouraging those who have gift cards to come visit us over the next month; however, if you can’t make it, we will absolutely be honoring them in Mountaintop.”
Cummings offered a heartfelt thank-you to Wilkes-Barre for hosting them and for “being so kind.”
Cummings added, “We want to extend our gratitude to our Mountain Top customers for continuing to support us throughout this journey. We would not be where we are without you.”
Cummings also thanked Gus Genetti for his support.
“We would also like to thank Mr. Genetti and his amazing staff members for their incredible generosity,” Cummings wrote. “We can’t wait to see everyone back on the mountain. And to all of our new Wilkes-Barre friends, we truly hope to see you on the mountain as well.”
Adelina’s Restaurant & Pizzeria, 166 South Mountain Blvd., Fairview Twp., was destroyed on May 20 by an apparent kitchen fire. The business was closed at the time, and no injuries were reported, but the structure was completely lost in the blaze and had to be demolished.
