A Hobbie woman was a first-place finisher in her division at the inaugural Athena on the Mountain held June 22 at Achieve Wellness and Fitness, 65 S. Mountain Blvd.
Shannon Rinehimer captured first place in the novice heavyweight division, earning her a qualifying spot at United States Strongman Nationals to be held later this year in South Carolina.
Thirteen women, including five from Mountain Top, four from New Jersey and one each from Michigan and Tennessee competed in the event which was sanctioned by United States Strongman. Local entrants, in addition to Rinehimer were Sharon Molecavage, Jessica Nelson, Corinne Gilsky and Mindy Dombroski.
Molecavage finished second in the Masters women division, earning her a spot in the national competition as well. Mindy Dombroski finished in third place in the novice lightweight division.
First-place finisher in the Novice categories earned a qualifying spot at United States Strongman Nationals. First-, second- and third-place finishers in the Masters category also earned spots at United States Strongman Nationals.
Participants competed in five events:
• Deadlift Max in which the top lift of the day was 330 pounds.
• Object Medley over the Yoke in which competitors had to carry a 70-pound dumbbell, then a 100-pound sandbag, and finally a 100-pound keg and put it over the 43-inch bar.
• Farmer’s Hold for time – Masters women held 51 pounds for as long as possible; Novice lightweight held 91 pounds for as long as possible, and then Novice heavyweight held 101pounds as long as possible.
• Sled Drag for time – Masters women had to pull 185 pounds; Lightweight women had to pull 205 pound; and Heavyweight women pulled 255 pounds 50 feet for time.
• Axle Bar Clean and Press for reps – competitors had one minute to do as many reps as possible. Masters women lifted 75 pounds; Novice lightweight women lifted 85 pounds; and Novice heavyweight women lifted 95 pounds.
The competition drew a number of spectators, which was the first held at Achieve Wellness and Fitness. Candice Dutko, owner and coach at Achieve Wellness and Fitness said another event for both men and women is scheduled for Oct. 19.
