Scores of girls, their moms and even a few dads turned out Sunday afternoon at the Broadway Tavern for “Twice Upon a Time,” a “pre-loved’ gown sale co-sponsored by the Mountain Top Welcome Club and Women’s Boutique and Consignments.

More than 300 gowns, both long and short, were on sale for anywhere from $20 to $50. Proceeds from the event, one of two planned by the Welcome Club and the Women’s Boutique and Consignments shop, will benefit the club’s scholarship fund for Crestwood High School seniors. There were two seamstresses at the event, G. Osman of Mountain Top and Alterations by Millie of Hazleton and the Broadway Tavern donated use of its space for the event.

While the “Twice Upon a Time” gown sale was underway, shoes, handbags and jewelry sets were for sale for $5 at Women’s Boutique and Consignments, 109 S. Mountain Blvd.

There were numerous giveaways for those attending, including gift certificates from numerous businesses in and around Mountain Top. Misty Kazmierski, owner of Women’s Boutique and Consignments, gave two girls their gowns for free.

The second event benefiting the scholarship fund is “Shop & Sip for Scholarship,” a women’s used clothing and accessories sale from 1 to 5 p.m. April 7 at Broadway Tavern. Items will be priced at either $1 or $5.

Each year, the club tries to award two $1,000 scholarships if enough funds are available, and any extra funds are donated to the Senior Lock-In event held on the night of graduation.
