Surrounded by her family, Ethel Fine of Slocum recently celebrated her 100th birthday at a family reunion held at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Dorrance.
Born in Dorrance on Aug. 7, 1923, Fine was one of 10 children. She resided most of her life in Slocum where she still lives today with her grandson, Michael Supkowski.
The centenarian said it was “wonderful” to be with her family to celebrate her 100th birthday.
“Nothing hurts,” she said of her health. “But when the good lord is ready to take me, I’m ready to go.”
Fine retired from RCA Corporation’s plant in the Crestwood Industrial Park. Previously she worked at Berwick Silk Mill and General Cigar Company. She and her late husband, Franklin, have two daughters. She also has seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild due soon.
She is a lifetime member of Emmanuel United church of Christ where she was very active, family members related. They pointed out she is an accomplished pianist. They also noted she excels at fudge making.
“Everybody loves her fudge. It’s the best around,” said one of her family members.
