A Mountain Top Little Leaguer will take center stage during the Little League World Series in Williamsport later this month.
Avery Brace will compete in the the national finals of the T-Mobile Little League Home Run Derby on Friday, Aug. 25, at Volunteer Field in Williamsport during the Little League World Series.
Brace is one of eight baseball players from across the nation to qualify for the event. He earned his spot in the event at this past Sunday’s East Regional competition at Kauffman Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals.
The finals will be televised on ESPN at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26.
Mountain Top Area Little League hosted its first ever local qualifier for the T-Mobile Little League Home Run Derby last month. More than 50 baseball and softball players participated in the event, and Brace’s 45 home runs were enough to earn his place in the East Regional finals. He finished in the top five of regionals to advance to the national finals.
In the local qualifier, Brace’s 45 home runs topped Matt Rodgers who finished in second with 29 and Teddy Taylor who finished third with 25. In the girls competition, Kayla Sinavage took home the top prize with 24 total home runs, followed by Ari Martinez in second with 23 and Holly Rodgers in third with 14.
