Jay Kotowski, father of Abe’s Hot Dogs owner Jordan Kotowski, has stepped up to help raise money for a former Mountain Top man who was severely injured in a motorcycle crash on July 1 in Florida.

Danny Steeves, 30, son of long-time Mountain Peaks photojournalist Claudia Strycharz, was injured in the crash that took place a short distance from his home in Deland, Fla. Steeves was driving his motorcycle home when he was run off the road by a vehicle that pulled out in front of him and left the scene, according to Strycharz. He skidded across a field and into a fence. He was airlifted to Halifax Health Medical Center of Daytona Beach. The father of a 9-month-old son, Bentley, sustained numerous broken bones and lacerations as well as a spinal cord injury that has left him paralyzed from the waist down.

“I was very saddened to learn about a terrible accident of a former little league kid I coached at Mountain Top Area Little League,” Jay Kotowski said.

To help raise money for Steeves’ medical expenses, Kotowski is chancing off his tickets for two New York Giants preseason football games along with parking passes for both games. The tickets are for the Giants Aug. 18 game at MetLife Stadium versus the Carolina Panthers and their Aug. 26 game against the New York Jets. The seats, he noted, are lower level, row 6.

Chances are $5 each or 3 for $10 and can be obtained at Abe’s Hot Dogs, 315 S. Mountain Blvd.

“I’m calling in all my favors from friends and everyone else to help pray for Danny to get well and help donate to his cause,” Kotowski said.
