MILLINGTON, Tenn. — U.S. Navy Capt. Patrick Hourigan, a native of Mountain Top, will turn over command and retire during a ceremony that will be held at Naval Air Station Oceana on June 9 after a successful tour commanding Commander Carrier Air Wing ONE.
Growing up in Mountain Top, Hourigan attended the former Bishop Hoban High School, where he was a member of the graduating class of 1994. Hourigan graduated from the Naval Academy in 1998, earning a bachelor of science degree in history, and was designated a naval aviator in August 2000.
“I am very thankful for the opportunities I have had because of the Navy and honored to have had the opportunity to serve with so many great people,” Hourigan said.
He reflected on his 25 years of military service by showing appreciation for those who made his career possible.
“I would like to thank everyone who contributed to my career over the last 25 plus years, whether it be family who gave me the support and tools to succeed or the mentors who taught me how to use those tools to serve,” Hourigan said.
He accumulated more than 2,700 flight hours in the F/A-18 A-F and more than 700 carrier arrested landings, including 40+ combat missions.
His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (four awards, one with combat “V”), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and numerous personal, unit, campaign, and service awards.
