WILKES-BARRE TWP. — A class whose high school experiences included social distancing, remote learning and proper mask wearing got to show off their success as the Crestwood High School Class of 2023 graduated at the Mohegan Sun Arena earlier this month.

Class President Raymond Joseph told about 250 classmates that they had reached a milestone and were entering a new phase of their life.

The moment, he said, was bittersweet.

Throughout his whole life, his best friend had been 12 minutes away. Soon, it would be a 24-hour trip for the two to meet, Joseph said.

Still, although the future would take the class of 2023 to new places, would mean new relationships and new experiences, he encouraged his classmates to stay connected to the area and to their classmates.

He told his classmates to be courageous and unafraid.

“And, if you’re afraid, do it afraid,” he said. “There will be success on the other side.”

Superintendent Natasha Milazzo said the Class of 2023 was the first class she had seen move from freshman through senior years, as superintendent.

She encouraged them to be excited about their accomplishments.

“You are a powerhouse, you have made your mark,” she said.

She encouraged the class to be in the moment, to build relationships and have experiences.

“Put your electronics down,” she said.

She also encouraged them to aim high and set goals.

“Put in the effort even when no one is looking,” she said.

Principal John Gorham encouraged the class to have an impact on the world, utilizing their unique skills and experiences.

“Don’t doubt your abilities,” he said. “You can succeed. You will make your mark.”
