More than 125 people attended a seminar on Pennsylvania’s “Castle Doctrine” and “Stand Your Ground” laws presented by the Mountain Top Area Community Association (MACA) on May 4 at King’s Pizza, Mountain Top.
Luzerne County district Attorney Sam Sanguedolce presented information on rights and responsibilities of citizens with regard to use of force, including deadly force, when confronted by intruders into their homes or in public.
Criminal defense attorney Chris Opiel discussed the laws from the perspective of a defense attorney. Trooper Anthony Petroski, Pennsylvania State Police, Troop N, provided information on law enforcement response to a situation where a weapon is involved. State Rep. Alec Ryncavage discussed Pennsylvania legislation regarding use of firearms.
MACA’s next project will be “Cops & Canines in the Park Day” on Sunday, June 11, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Wright Township dog park. The event is a fundraiser for the Rice Township canine project.
