Crestwood High School wrestling team had an outstanding showing at the recent PIAA District 2 Class 3A championships held at Wilkes-Barre Area High School.
The Comets crowned one champion and will send four wrestlers to the Class 3A Northeast Regional tournament at Bethlehem Liberty High School. In all, Crestwood had nine medalists at the two-day event.
Magnus Bibla captured a gold medal at 215 pounds with a second period pin of Wallenpaupack’s Hank Baronowski. Bibla recorded three pins en route to the championship. His brother, Lincoln Bibla took third place at 189 pounds with a first-period pin of rival James Griffin of Wyoming Valley West. Also capturing third place was 152-pounder Devin Shaw earned the bronze with a 17-4 major decision over Wilkes-Barre Area’s Gene Ardo.
The fourth Comet who will advance to the regional tournament is Santino Casarella who captured fourth place at 133 pounds.
Other Crestwood medalists were Anson Jumper, fifth place, 107 pounds; Sam Jeckell, fifth place, 127 pounds; Isaac Mertz, fifth place, 160 pounds; Chris Smolenak, fifth place, 285 pounds; Thomas Stavitski, sixth place, 139 pounds.
