Sending flowers to loved one on Valentine’s Day is a tradition that dates back to the 17th century. That tradition has continued for centuries, and for florists, Valentine’s Day is one of the single busiest days of the year.
“Our Christmas business extends over a full month,” said Lisa Benkowski, co-owner of The Flower Warehouse in, 65 Elizabeth St., Forty Fort. “But our busiest short period is Valentine’s Day.”
Benkowski said red roses are the traditional Valentine’s Day flower, but customers often opt for one of the many other color roses or other flowers such as Gerber daisies or tulips. While The Flower Warehouse offers many varieties of mixed flower bouquets, many of its customers choose the option of picking their own flowers for their arrangements. Benkowski said customers can browse through their cooler and choose from nearly 50 types of flowers including many colors of roses, tulips, daisies, sunflowers and hydrangea.
“They pick them out, bring them to us and we make up an arrangement,” she explained. “It’s very popular.”
While they offer delivery service, Benkowski said most of their business for Valentine’s Day is walk-in. The Flower Warehouse is located just off Welles Street in Forty Fort, a short distance from the Cross Valley Expressway’s Kingston/Forty Fort exit.
Benkowski, who owns the flower store along with Sue Hrubowchak, emphasized there are plenty of flowers from which to choose this year. She also pointed out that The Flower Warehouse also offers a variety of plants and an array of gifts.
