Scores of youngsters and adults turned out for Rice Township’s inaugural Holiday Tree Lighting on Dec. 10 at the township park.

The tree in the township park was decorated with hundreds of colorful lights and Santa Claus arrived in a township police car with lights and sirens blaring. The jolly old elf had the honor of turning on the tree’s lights and afterward greeted youngsters and listened carefully to their Christmas wishes. Children received Christmas stockings and stuffers. There also was hot chocolate, coffee, cookies and campfire s’mores.

The tree was decorated with the help of First Light Fiber which donated trucks, manpower and time to the project which was sponsored by the township and its police department.
