Rice Elementary held its annual Race for Education on Thursday.
Students completed laps around the school parking lot to raise money for school events. Andy Armadillo is from Texas Roadhouse, Tux from the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins, Red from Red Robin, and Hello Kitty mascots greeted students as they completed their laps. Students raised money through sponsorships by family and friends for laps run or walked. Crestwood cheerleaders and marching band participated. An ice cream truck sponsored by Fidelity Bank provided treats for each child.
The Race for Education is the main school-wide fundraiser. Money raised goes to field trips, enrichment programs, Rice Days (which is the track and field spring day) and after school events (family nights, school wide Skateaway parties, etc.).
