All good scientists use their power of observation and inference to solve given problems. Saint Jude fifth-grade students learned the value of such skills while completing their first science lab of the year. With partners, students determined whether given pieces of information could be considered quantitative or qualitative research. Science teacher Marilyn Baran led the students in a class discussion and laboratory exploration meant to open their minds to the many ways one can solve scientific problems.
