Join Stairville United Methodist Church, 1790 Stairville Road in Mountain Top for spiritual yoga on Sundays at 5:30 p.m. Bring your own yoga mat. A donation basket will be available and donations are given to the church. The class lasts 1 hour, all levels welcome.

LIBRARY HOURS

Stairville United Methodist Church in Wapwallopen has opened a Community Library located in the church on Tuesday, July 12. The library is open for adults, young adults, and children with a variety of books, games, puzzles, and videos to take out for their enjoyment. Eventually there will be story hours, crafts and more to do during library hours. The library will be open Tuesday, Thursday 1 to 4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the church located at 1790 Stairville Rd. in Wapwallopen. In partnership with Convoy of Hope, Mountaintop Family Church will have a Food Distribution at MFC (209 South Mountain Blvd Mountaintop) on Friday, Sept. 16, from 10 a.m. to noon and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. No registration is necessary – all are welcome. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS GOLF TOURNAMENT

The Mountain Top Knights of Columbus will hold a charity golf tournament on Saturday, September 17 at Sand Springs Country Club in Drums with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Fee is $85 per person. Sponsorships are available for a business or patron. Sponsorship can be in the form of money, gift cards, or baskets. MARIAN SUTHERLAND KIRBY LIBRARY 5K

The Marian Sutherland Kirby Library will be holding a 5K run/walk fundraiser on Sunday, Sept. 18. Race start is 9 a.m., and will begin and at at the library, 35 Kirby Ave.. HIKE IN, HIKE OUT HOOTENANNY

The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor (DLNHC) will be holding a Hike In, Hike Out Hootenanny on September 18 at Moosehead Lake in White Haven. An information booth will be set up on the D&L Trail that runs next to the lake with information about the DLNHC and its key programs, as well as water and granola for trail users that pass by. There will also be live music played by local folk-rock band, The Pickups. The Pickups band is led by Don Shappelle, a singer-songwriter and guitarist who writes songs that discuss a variety of topics ranging from local coal mining history, nature and the environment, and the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay. Joining Don Shappelle for this concert on the trail is bassist and vocalist Don Sennett.

CONQUER THE MOUNTAIN 5K

The Rotary Club of Mountain Top will hold their annual 5K Run/Walk event, Conquer the Mountain, on Saturday, September 24, 2022. This year, a portion of the profits will go toward the prevention of drug abuse and suicides. A prevention program called “Too Good for Drugs” will be presented by the “Pathways to Recovery” Program at the Crestwood School District. The event will be held at the Wright Township Municipal Park. The ‘Walk’ begins at 9:45 a.m., the “Run” at 10 a.m., and the ‘Fun Run/Walk’ at 10:30 a.m. (The Fun Run/Walk does not have hills, and is not timed, and medals are not awarded). FOOD DRIVE

The Mountain Top Knights of Columbus Council No. 6440 from St. Jude Church will be holding a food drive collection on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in the church parking lot near the parish grove. This food drive is to benefit the St Paul’s Food Bank in Mountain Top. Food needed by St. Paul’s Food Bank includes spaghetti sauce, spaghetti, pasta, broth, Jell-O, pudding, mac & cheese, beets, applesauce, corn, green beans, carrots and peanut butter.

WALK FOR THE ANIMALS

The SPCA of Luzerne County will hold its 31st annual Walk for the Animals on Saturday, Oct. 1 at Frances Slocum State Park. Registration is at 9 a.m. The walk and blessing of the animals begins at 11 a.m. All dogs must be wearing a suitable collar or harness and must be ketp on a leash at all times. All dogs must be 6 months old or older. No female digs in season will be allowed. Water, pet treats and clean-up bags will be provided. Registration fee is $20 per walker or $100 for a team of up to seven people ($15 per additional walker on a team). CHICKEN DINNER

The Sons of the American Legion will host a chicken dinner from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2, at American Legion Mt. Post 781, 1550 Henry Drive. SOCK HOP

On Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022 from 6 p.m to 10 p.m., the Mountain Top Historical Society will be hosting a Memories of Warmland Sock Hop at the Broadway Tavern on Route 309 in Mountain Top. Tickets are $20 per person, and include hamburgs and hotdogs. Those attending are encouraged to come dressed in 1950s-style clothing, but it is not necessary. There will be a cash bar. Attendees may bring their own snacks. 50s and 60s music will be provided by DJ Linda. Tickets are available at the Farmers Market at Crestwood High School on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or by contacting Steve McGinnis, 570-474-6942. This is a fundraiser for the MTHS, and any funds left over from hosting the Sock Hop will be used toward the expenses of refurbishing the Red Caboose on the society’s property on Route 309, and other expenses of the society to maintain the future of keeping history alive in Mountain Top, and eventually finding a permanent home for the MTHS.
