Some members of Boy Scout Troop 434 recently met at George Burger & Sons Garden Center to complete the final requirement of the gardening merit badge. They started the badge in the spring by planting vegetable and flower seeds and tending them through harvest. They learned about the nutritional value of some fruits and vegetables and discussed common garden pests and how to combat them in an environmentally friendly way. The boys visited a local beekeeper and learned about the importance of sustaining the honeybee population. Mr. Burger discussed the business side of horticulture and gave the boys a tour of his business. Troop 434 meets on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 781 in Mountain Top.
