The Vince Wojnar Memorial Scholarship, in its fourth year, awarded scholarships to two District 2 student-athletes in cross country and track. Molly DeMarzo and Nash Greene from Crestwood High School — pictured with Linda Wojnar and Vince Wojnar Jr. — each received a $500 scholarship from the fund, which was established by the family and friends of the late local running legend, Vince Wojnar, who passed away in 2018. DeMarzo placed first at the District 2 Class 3A Cross Country Championships, first in the 3200-meter, and fourth in the 1600-meter run at the District 2 Class 3A Track and Field Championships. She plans to attend Temple University where she will continue her running career on the cross country and track and field teams. Greene placed 17th at the District 2 Class 3A Cross Country Championships and fifth at the District 2 Class 3A Track and Field Championships in the 3200-meter run. Nash plans to attend Penn State University and run on their cross country club team. The Vince Wojnar Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of the Wyoming Valley Striders co-founder for his contributions to the sport of running while recognizing a male and female high school student-athlete who are college-bound and possess Vince’s characteristics of athleticism and academic achievement. The Vince Wojnar Memorial Scholarship is administered by The Community Foundation of the Endless Mountains. Tax deductible donations can be sent to the foundation at 270 Lake Avenue, Montrose, PA 18801 (include Vince Wojnar Scholarship in the memo), made online at community-foundation.org/fund/vince-wojnar-memorial-scholarship/ or on any RunSignup pages for Wyoming Valley Striders club races.
