The JumpStart Cart is up and running.
The private nonprofit organization that provides young adults with special needs a successful and enriching career running and operating a food truck is serving lunches two days a week from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Broadway Tavern, located on Route 309 at the top of the mountain.
The food truck’s regular menu includes Jump Start chicken salad served on ciabatta bread; The Cart Classic which includes homemade pesto topped with mozzarella cheese, tomato, red onion and basil, served on ciabatta bread; the “Betty” burger slider, a handmade burger patty served with cheese, lettuce, tomato and red onion; and grilled cheese on ciabatta bread.
The primary purpose of The JumpStart Cart is to serve young adults with special needs leaving the academic setting and entering the workforce perhaps for the first time. The JumpStart Cart is designed to provide adults with special needs an opportunity to work in an environment that is fun, safe and promotes further development of skills.
The Jumpstart Cart was founded by Jackie Elick and Jessica Light. Elick serves as chief operating officer and Light is chief executive officer. Officers are Theresa Kline, president; Evelyn Hogan, vice president; Traci Donahue, treasurer; Kristin Ermak, secretary. Board members are Deborah Popson and Suzanne Modrovsky, fundraising co-chair.
As a nonprofit, The JumpStart Cart relies on funding from a variety of sources such as grants, donations and support from other therapeutic professionals.
