A Crestwood boys basketball alumni game and reunion, benefiting the Crestwood Basketball Booster Club, will be held Saturday, Aug. 13, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Wright Township basketball courts.

Organizers are hoping get enough players to field at least two teams, but hopefully four teams.

Alumni from the program will coach the teams. PIAA referees will handle officiating duties and the games will be timed and scored per PIAA rules. Bill Flanagan, class of 1976, has agreed to be a celebrity coach for one of the teams. Tommy Benz, class of 1986, will coach a second team. If there are enough players to fill four rosters, additional alumni coaches will be recruited.

Coaches will have an online draft to determine team rosters. This will be held the week of the game. Andy Gegaris, owner of Tavern on the Trail in White Haven, and Pocono Area Realty – Benz Group, will be providing T-Shirts for the players.

Organizers are hoping to raise some money for the booster club as part of the event. Players participating in the games are asked to make a voluntary donation of $20 to the booster club. This is not required.

A 50/50 3-point contest also will be held.

Organizers point out that any alumni not in shape to play are welcome to come and enjoy the game, catch up with old teammates and meet some players from other classes. Families are welcome to come and enjoy the park. Crestwood coach Mark Atherton will be on hand and the booster club will set up a refreshment stand in the pavilion above the courts.

If this is a success, this can become an annual event. Participants can sign up by emailing Tommy Benz at tombenz333@gmail.com or texting him at 570.899.2492. Please identify yourself in the text.

Anyone unable to attend but who would like to make donation can do so through Venmo to @Crestwood-Boys-Basketball or reach out to Benz for information on where to send a check.
