Each edition Mountain Top resident Joe Sainclair will share a photo with Mountain Peaks readers.

This week, Sainclair took the scenic route for his photos. The now closed Council Cup scenic overlook in Wapwallopen provided an unparalleled view of the Susquehanna River. This high vantage point gave visitors a 30-mile panoramic view of the riverlands. According to legend, the Native Americans believed this scenic area to be sacred ground and often used it as a lookout and as a place to hold tribal council meetings.

Sainclair, a Crestwood graduate, teaches English and public speaking at the school and has been an avid explorer of nature and abandoned ruins since high school. He’s married and has two children in the district. You can find him on Facebook and YouTube at JTS Explorations.
